UPDATE:   "Cha Joe" Run Completed

The Quo Vadis Theatre Company has finished staging the play "Cha Joe" based on the career of Fr. James Joseph "Joe" Devlin, S.J. who spent his final years working at Our Lady of Peace Parish in Santa Clara, CA.  The play will cover his work in Việt Nam during the war, in the "New Arrivals" camp in Marine Camp Pendleton in 1975, and this work at the Songkhla and Sikieu refugee camps in Thailand from 1979-1986.

This play was the culmination of research work done by G. C. Davis and Gary Laidlaw, interviews by Denis Marks, coordination by QVTC Interim President Marie Ballentine.

The idea came when QVTC was approached by Fr. Ray Devlin, S.J., Joe's younger brother and author of the biography "Cha." This happened in 2007 when we were about to do our "On Tour With Quo Vadis" fund-raiser show.  Gary and G. C. Davis immediately put an outline together about Fr. Devlin, based not only on the book, but also Joe's own narrative as well as other sources.

In 2011, some of the refugee orphans of the Children's Center in the Songkhla, now grown, camp contacted QVTC. This resulted in a interview with them for the TV show "ArtBeat"  From out of these interviews grew some scenes in the second act.
